Locally led response in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine
Diakonia ECCB (Diakonie ECC, Centre for Humanitarian and Development Cooperation), a member of the ACT Alliance, will host an event in Prague on 24 May 2023, bringing together experts and practitioners in the field to discuss and identify best practices for an effective local response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The event will be moderated by Dr. Ondřej Horký-Hlucháň, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of International Relations in Prague, and guests who will speak at the event include: Hana Volná, Deputy Director of the Department for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Petr Drbohlav, Regional Director for Eastern Partnership and the Balkans, People in Need, Michael Mosselmans, Head of Humanitarian Division, Christian Aid, Roman Fihas, Professor at the Institute of Ecumenical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Tetiana Stawnychy, President of Caritas Ukraine. The Ecumenical Association of Churches in Romania will be represented at the conference by Mrs Elena Timofticiuc, Executive Secretary of AIDRom.
Discussions will focus on how best to apply a local approach to humanitarian and development cooperation, taking into account the perspective of foreign donors, European humanitarian organisations and representatives of Ukrainian churches and civil society. The main objective of the discussion is to develop best practices and provide reflections on how to deliver effective humanitarian aid in Ukraine, thus contributing to the long-term reconstruction of society.
