Stereotypes and prejudices “demolished” by a new SAFE HUT course

Today, 21 November 2023, the AIDRom team participated in another exciting training session organised by colleagues from the SAFE HUT project. Training with three main sections, Cultural Mediation Methodology. Cross-cultural communication competence model. Diversity management in cross-cultural setting, brought together about 100 interested and committed participants. They had the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of expert psychotherapist in MHPSS, GBV and ethnopsychology, Maria Chiara Monti and trainer in diversity management and intercultural competences for civil society professionals, Roberta Lo Bianco, who shared their knowledge and experience.

In addition to basic information, the training provided concrete, applied examples from which participants could learn:

  • The role of cultural mediators in the WGSS, main tasks and responsibilities
  • Core concepts regarding the trauma informed approach when dealing with women and girls survivors of trafficking or at risk of exploitation/GBV
  • Key principles of communication
  • Main challenges concerning transcultural communicationli>
  • How do people respond to diversity? Why do people react to diversity?
  • Culture shock analysis and critical incident methodology will be the tools that will enable us to understand what skills are required in the work of connecting with people from different cultural, linguistic, religious, and value background.

The Capacity Building is designed by IRC (Italy and Germany), CESIE (Italy) and Centro Penc (Italy) to provide training and to facilitate knowledge exchange for the Safe Space implementing partner organizations, including all Staff involved in the SAFE HUT Project. This project that aims at providing Safe Spaces for Women and Girls with a special focus on the needs of potential victims of trafficking, to be established in Greece (KMOP), Lithuania (KOPZI), Bulgaria (Animus) and Romania (AIDRom).
