Maryna builds language bridges in Romania

The Ukrainian Maryna Zaporozhan, a refugee from her homeland, translates Romanian, Ukrainian and Russian for AIDRom. In this way, it not only builds linguistic bridges. Being understood is hope for many other refugees.
AIDRom – a platform for ecumenical cooperation among churches in Romania – promotes the participation of people who are marginalized, advocates for equal opportunities and fights human trafficking and discrimination. It offers help and contact persons to refugees and migrants who want to integrate in Romania, advises on legal issues, supports access to the labour market, provides subsidies for food, hygiene articles, organises medical care, psychological counselling and also places in kindergartens and schools.
The main measures are: promoting equal opportunities for women and combating trafficking in human beings, preventing domestic violence and providing opportunities in the EU labour market. For street children, often victims of human trafficking, AIDrom offers medical assistance, fights drug use and prevents them from slipping into crime. AIDRom maintains three regional advisory centres in Romania. The organization’s 30-strong team also oversees a “save house” for victims of human trafficking and two shelters for asylum seekers.
