Providing Health for the Asylum Seekers from Romania (ASIG – RO)

(Project code: FAMI 20.02.04.02)

STAGE II

The ICAR Foundation, in partnership with AIDRom, implements the project: “Providing Health for the Asylum Seekers from Romania (ASIG – RO)”, project code: FAMI 20.02.04.02. The project is carried out in 3 in between September 2020 and December 2022 and is financed by the National Program Fund for Asylum, Migration and Integration.

The II-nd stage of implementation took place in between September 27, 2021 and September 25, 2022.

The general objective of the project is to improve the conditions of reception and assistance for asylum seekers in Romania, by contributing to ensuring their basic needs in terms of their physical and mental health.

This project targets asylum seekers from Bucharest, Galați, Giurgiu, Rădăuți, Șomcuta Mare and Timișoara, which live in the Regional Accommodation and Procedures Centres or in the closed centres of the General Inspectorate for Immigration, as well as those who live outside these centres.

The psycho-social specialists involved in the project identify asylum seekers, especially those belonging to vulnerable categories (families in difficulty, elderly people, people with chronic diseases, unaccompanied minors, victims of physical and mental violence), as well as identifying their needs. Afterwards, tests are carried out to assess the general health of newly arrived asylum seekers, and general practitioners provide weekly medical consultations.

The project will also ensure the settlement of medical devices and transport to medical facilities for people who are unable to move on their own, in order to respond as best as possible to the medical needs of asylum seekers in Romania.
