ASIST – Integrated assistance for vulnerable migrants in Romania
Project funded by: Brot fur die Welt, Germany
The aim of this project is to further ensure the promotion of a social aid system and to provide specialized services in order to raise the standard of living of the refugees arriving in Romania. ASIST brings a new strategy, in relation to the host community. It emphasizes the people belonging to vulnerable groups: unaccompanied women and children, disabilities and families in need of help.
ASIST responds to the needs of refugees and creates the right framework for their support and motivation to stay on the territory of Romania, integrate and invest in their development.
As well, the project supports the active involvement of representatives of migrant communities, as well as of the host society, through the activities carried out during implementation. ASIST will contribute this way to a better understanding of the migration phenomenon and to the promotion of mutual knowledge and understanding.
The Specific objectives of this project:
– Strengthen the capacity of the church and the local community in “Welcoming migrants” into the life of the community by continuing the itinerant exhibition: “God loves strangers.” This exhibition aims to reach as many people as possible so that they become aware of the phenomenon of migration.
– Promoting communication and creating networks between active actors through various activities on migration issues, especially on the rights of migrants (in Romania), and providing opportunities for strengthening interfaith reflection and action.
Recreational Activities:
Due to the project, there were organized 2-day trips for refugee children and asylum seekers. During these activities, the children learned about the local traditions and culture, having as well the opportunity to spend some quality time outside the shelters or outside the accommodation.
